If you’re looking to get a website up and running for your business, there are a lot of great options for how to make your own website without the need for hiring a professional. I know this may be intimidating and a little scary for some, but the reality is that it’s easier than ever to build a website.

How to Make a Website Using WordPress

WordPress is without a doubt the gold standard when it comes to DIY websites. There’s a reason why when people are looking to build a website, start a blog, or sell stuff online they tend to use WordPress as the platform. It is an inexpensive option. And with lots of great tools available to add-on to the basic WordPress platform, it’s a great option for those who want to know how to build their own website.

Steps to Create Your Own Website

Choose Your Hosting

Some people would say that picking a domain name is the first step in creating a website, but the reason why I listed hosting as the first step is because most of the top hosting platforms like Hostgator, DreamHost, Bluehost and Hostinger provide the ability to get a domain name through them when you purchase a hosting plan. For instance Hostgator has a plan that starts at $2.75 per month and it gives you hosting, an SSL certificate for the website and a free domain for the first year. This makes it super easy and affordable to start a website.

Install WordPress

The hosting sites have a “Quick Install” feature that let’s you install WordPress with just one click. You just select a username and password for the Administrator login and then you’re all set.

Edit The Design

At this point your site is up and running and all you have to do is make it look pretty and add content. For the design of the website, WordPress uses Themes. Your WordPress website has some basic themes already installed and these may be just fine for your needs. If you are just doing a simple blog a basic theme is OK, but if you are going to monetize your website and it’s for business purposes then you’ll probably want a theme that looks more professional.

Add Content

Now that your site looks nice, you need to add content. Content can be pictures, videos and text. The combination of these items is the content that makes up your website and gives it value. You need good content to draw people to your website and consistently good content to bring them back.

It may seem hard to believe, but that’s all there is to it. You now have a website that you can promote. There is certainly more that you can do to enhance your website, but we’ll cover those in future topics. For now you can celebrate that your website is built and ready to go.
